Prof. Dr. Urs Dahinden

Prof. Dahinden is a full professor for communication science University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons FHGR (Switzerland). He is also teaching as a senior lecturer (“Privatdozent”) at the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research IKMZ at the University of Zurich (Switzerland). His research focuses on the empirical investigation of the quality of science and health communication. This focus includes a commitment to innovative outreach activities that aim at transferring the findings of scientific research to society. He was in charge of permanent education classes on science and health communication in the Master of Public Health of the universities of Basel, Bern and Zurich. Furthermore, he has a long experience in the organization of classical outreach activities like public discussions, newspaper articles and permanent education of journalists. In addition to these classical outreach formats, Prof. Dahinden has been involved in innovative outreach approaches and the development of software tools that help to improve the usability of complex information systems. These innovative tools were an integrative part in some of his research projects focusing on the use of computer models in integrated climate change assessment, online- whistleblowing or prostate cancer. Prof. Dahinden has published his research findings in international peer reviewed journals and in a number of book chapters and books.
