Was denken wohl die anderen?

Feeding The Spark – English

“Feeding the Spark” – Hunger for Creativity

Children can be creative in an admirable way. They paint, do crafts, tinker around playfully, spontaneously, eager to learn, are joyfully at work, unrestrained by theoretical concepts, uninhibited by questions of meaning and quality. They don’t question if what they are doing is art? Am I good enough? What do the others think? The hunger to express oneself in a creative manner is greater than anything else. Many people with Parkinson’s disease also feel this free urge to just be creative. Not despite, but thanks to the disease and therapy. Some start painting from one day to the next, even though they have never held a paintbrush in their hands before. Others carve cars out of wood or model imaginative sculptures. Urs Bratschi makes pasta. The complex, delicate and colourful patterns that the Basel native works into his ravioli, pappardelle and tortellini make many top kitchen chefs turn green with envy of his creations. Every day he spends several hours in the kitchen trying out new patterns and colors.

The Centre for Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders at the University Clinic for Neurology in Bern, under the leading direction of Dr. med. Ines Debove, together with the filmmaker Bettina Rotzetter, portrayed this Parkinson’s patient. Thanks to pasta art, he can cope better with his illness, Urs Bratschi says in “Feeding the Spark”. Creativity can help to concentrate on what’s still functioning and still works, agree the three Parkinson’s experts Ines Debove (neurologist, Inselspital Bern), Marie Maradan-Gachet (neuropsychologist, Inselspital Bern) and Blanca T.M. Spee (Researcher art, creativity and Parkinson‘s, RadboudUMC the Nederlands, University of Vienna): The disease is given less space because those affected enjoy what they are doing and create something new with almost childish kind of joy. The form of expression itself is almost secondary. It is anchored in the preferences and biography of the individual patient. What is decisive is the passion with which “something new” is created, the joy of creating, the putting aside of everyday problems, as the short film impressively illustrates. Art can arise anywhere and be anything – a painting, a melody or just: Pasta!

The project was also supported by Bertarelli Foundation.

The film was translated into 11 languages and subtitled to encourage as many people as possible to be creative.

[188
["post-11984","haru_video","type-haru_video","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","video_category-featured
["GET
